Search Engine Optimisation refers to having your website found online - namely in Google

SEO is vital if you want to get the most out of your website by being found online

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the practice of improving a website so it ranks higher in search engine results pages like Google (SERPs). SEO includes a multitude of techniques designed to increase a website’s visibility and relevance with search engines’ algorithms.

SEO’s main aim is to boost both the amount and quality of organic (not paid for) traffic coming through search engines like Google, without paying for advertisements on them such as Google Adwords. Organic traffic entails visitors coming directly from search results rather than paid advertisements from websites themselves.

Keyword research is the foundation of SEO, helping websites determine and create targeted content by determining which words and phrases (search terms) that people search for when looking for specific services and products offered on a website. Once done, optimisation takes effect via targeted content creation on various pages within the website itself. Keyword research also aids with planning content marketing strategy for marketing channels like social media.

The difference between 'On Page' SEO and 'Off Page' SEO

Once keywords and search terms have been identified, on-page (internal) optimisation becomes the next step. On-page optimisation refers to changes made to websites’ structure and content to make them more appealing to search engine algorithms – including optimising title tags, meta descriptions and header tags with relevant keywords as well as a miriad of other SEO tasks carried out.

Content creation is another critical aspect of SEO. Generating high-quality, user-focused material is crucial to increasing a site’s relevance and authority within search engine algorithms. Content should include relevant keywords and phrases that make sense while being well written, engaging, and informative to the end user.

Off-page optimization (or offsite SEO), is another integral element of search engine optimisation (SEO). Offsite optimisation involves building high-quality backlinks from other relevant websites pointing back at a website in question – they signal to search engines that your website is authoritative and trustworthy, yet low quality or spammy backlinks may actually deteriorate its ranking!

In conclusion...

Ongoing analysis and optimisation are vital in maintaining and improving SEO on any website, which includes tracking rankings, traffic metrics, engagement measurements and adapting SEO strategies accordingly.

SEO is essential to creating a strong online presence and is essential in increasing visibility and driving high-quality organic traffic to businesses and individuals’ websites. Successful SEO requires conducting keyword research, on-page optimisation and content production, with the option of going to that next step and performing off-page optimisation and ongoing analysis and optimisation in order to be truly successful in increasing presence online and staying ahead of competitors. With an effective SEO plan in place, businesses and individuals alike can establish themselves as authorities within their industries while staying ahead of competitors by increasing organic search traffic to their website.

SEO FAQ's

Will it help my website in Google if it gets visited a lot?

Not any more! Back in the old days when Google was just a young thing, this was indeed a relevant factor in determining how popular your website was. Then software developers devised ways to have bots continually clicking into your website to try and fake visits to try and trick Google. Obviously that was sorted out by Google fairly quick sharp!

Can I add loads of suburbs into my site to help with searches?

SEO processes are many and specialised and it takes more that just shoving loads of suburbs into a page on your website. This practice will not help you get found for those search terms at all. The only time you would do that is if you had a genuine need to list specific suburbs that your business covers. This would only help the website visitor in learning which suburb you operate in rather than persuade Google to rank you higher when those suburbs are used in a search term.

Can I redirect a descriptive domain name to my site?

This won’t get you found in Google for that descriptive text at all. Google knows that there is no website on that domain name and so will not even show it in the search results.

How long does it take to get found in Google

Once SEO is performed on a website (whether it be internal SEO or external SEO) it will take some time for that website to start showing higher in Google’s results. Google itself stipulates that this can take 3 – 6 months sometimes before results start to become evident.

Once my site is live, will it be found in Google?

Once Google has recognised your site is now online, if someone searches for the actual domain name, there’s a fair chance your site will be close to the top, but if they search for anything other than that, you site will struggle to be found unless you have had good SEO performed.
